What’s new in the pathogenesis of Neonatal Diarrhea (ND)?

Professor Guillermo Ramis graduated in veterinary medicine in 1993, obtained his PhD in veterinary science in 2002 and the ECPHM diplomate in 2006. He is currently an assistant professor at the University of Murcia in the Department of Animal Production since 2005. Formerly he developed his professional activity in CEFU, SA, a large integration company in southeast Spain (100.000 sows) for 13 years. His research lines are devoted to intestinal diseases, intestinal integrity, immunology and xenotransplantation. He is also co-author of more than 150 indexed articles, 100 articles of difussion and 30 books or chapters.

Update on the laboratory diagnostics of ND.

Dr. Katrin Strutzberg-Minder´s career began with Biology studies at the University of Hanover, she then obtained a diploma and doctorate and began her career as a Scientific assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin, Scientific assistant at IVD GmbH and is currently managing partner at the IVD GmbH, Innovative Veterinary Diagnostics Laboratory, in Seelze Germany.
Dr. Strutzberg-Minder’s main areas of work include Scientific Project Development, Management and Supervision, Diagnostic Consulting and Scientific Analysis incl. epidemiological questions. She has more than 40 publications.

17.50-18.15 > Professor Lorenzo Fraile
Role of lactogenic immunity on the prevention of ND.

Professor Lorenzo José Fraile Sauce is associate professor of Epidemiology and Pharmacology at the Department of Animal Science in the University of Lleida since 2010. From 1997 to 2004, he worked as a swine veterinarian for a big integration company in Spain and from 2004 to 2010, as a senior researcher at CReSA, Barcelona, mainly developing and testing new drugs and vaccines for pigs. His research interest includes epidemiology, pharmacology and immunology focused on developing new tools to control bacterial and viral diseases in livestock.
He is member of the European College of Porcine Health and Management and European expert to evaluate drugs and vaccines for animals in the European Union. He has published 123 papers in peer-review journals.

18.15-18.35 > Dr. Daniel Sperling
Why broadest protection against ND is key.

Dr. Sperling graduated in 2003 with a DVM from the Veterinary and Pharmaceutical University in Brno, Czech Republic. He then went on to obtain a PHD in Specialisation on enteric disease of swine from the Institute of Microbiology and Infectious Disease, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. During this period Mr Sperling worked as an assistant on Institute of Microbiology and Infectious Disease, after which he became an Associate Professor at the Ruminant and Swine Clinic, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Brno.
He has 4 years’ experience as a field veterinarian with specialisation in pig medicine, 12 years’ experience working in pharmaceutical industry and is currently Corporate Veterinary Service Manager at Ceva Sante Animale, France.
